These Poems Change Lives – life stories redirected by poetry
Smokey Joe’s, Saturday 21 April, 8.30pm. £8/£6
entry is free to those sharing their poem’s story at the microphone
Poems – funny, sad, comforting, disturbing, or life-affirming – have affected many life stories. In an exclusive Cheltenham Poetry Festival event, poet, playwright, and storyteller Howard Timms describes how the power of ‘Desiderata’ by Max Ehrmann turned his life around. Howard will also introduce other poets who will each read their favourite poem, and explain its dramatic influence. The poet/storytellers were selected from entries in a competition during last winter. While audience votes for the evening’s three outstanding poet/readers are counted, some life-affirming and life-changing poems will be read from Poems to See You Through. This book was published as a fund-raiser for Maggie’s Cancer Centre in Cheltenham to which half of the ticket sales for this event will be donated. This book will be on sale after the event.
